Diskografi The DOORS

The Doors dibentuk di Los Angeles 1960 oleh Ray Manzarek, Jim Morrison, John Densmore, dan Robby Krieger. Nama The Doors mereka ambil dari judul buku The Doors of Perception.

Tahun 1967, album pertama mereka pun dirilis dengan judul THE DOORS. Album ini direkam hanya dalam beberapa hari karena sebagian besar lagu direkam secara live dan hanya dalam satu kali rekam. Album ini sukses dalam penjualan dan berhasil meraih 5 platinum.

Dalam waktu singkat The Doors naik menjadi grup band papan atas. Aksi panggung dan karisma Jim Morrison menjadi daya tarik tersendiri buat The Doors. Lirik puitis yang kadang sulit dimengerti menjadi ciri khas lagu-lagu The Doors.

5 album yang dirilis kemudian selalu mencapai angka penjualan yang tinggi dan mendapat platinum. Album ke 5 mereka L.A WOMAN bahkan mencapai doble platinum. Namun kesuksesan itu akhirnya harus surut juga.

Tahun 1971, saat berlibur di Perancis, Jim Morrison ditemukan tewas di dalam bak mandi di kamar hotelnya. Sampai sekarang belum ada kepastian tentang penyebab kematian Jim karena belakangan diketahui bahwa Jim dimakamkan di Perancis tanpa menjalani proses otopsi.

Setelah kematian Jim Morrison, The Doors tetap eksis dan sempat menelurkan 2 album lagi. Sektor vokal yang kosong diisi oleh Krieger dan Manzarek. Dua album ini tidak berhasil mengulang sukses album-album sebelumnya. Namun saat The Doors menemukan rekaman suara Jim Morrison membacakan puisi sesaat sebelum meninggal dan mencoba menambahkan musik dan merilisnya dalam album AN AMERICAN PRAYER, tingkat penjualan album kembali melonjak.

Dengan formasi terakhir Brett Scallions, Robby Krieger, Ray Manzarek, Ty Dennis, dan Phil Chen, The Doors tetap menjadi grup musik legendaris.
